Beyond Expo, Emilia-Romagna "marching" towards Guangdong

In Bologna a numerous institutional and business delegation to establish new commercial relations. President Bonaccini is working on a trip to China in 2016 involving the region's companies and universities

Next year, companies and universities from Emilia-Romagna will be the core of a new trip to Guangdong, the largest and richest of the Chinese provinces. It was announced by the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, during the Hotel and Tourism Industry Business Forum, promoted by the Province of Guangdong and the Region together with Emilia-Romagna Confindustria and the Italy-China Foundation.

Export driver

"Ours is a receptive region, attentive and open to opportunities - said President Stefano Bonaccini - we must continue to work to strengthen exports, but 53 billion euro in 2014 together with the data of these first months of 2015 provide a positive picture . We have all it takes to be the driver of the country and the collaboration between Emilia-Romagna and Guangdong can be an excellent opportunity for growth in the Region. I am satisfied with the MOU signed a few months ago in Guangzhou. And this morning's conference represents a further strengthening of our cooperation".

A province with 104 million inhabitants

In fact, Guangdong - the leading province in China in terms of GDP and foreign trade, with a population of over 104 million inhabitants - is the preferred partner of the Emilia-Romagna Region in China, strengthened by the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2015 by the President of the Region, Bonaccini. A partnership to implement exchange and cooperation initiatives between Emilia-Romagna and Guangdong in the fields of commerce and investment, food safety, technology, environmental protection, culture and tourism. On that occasion, stock was taken of the progress of ongoing projects and of the launch of new joint initiatives for a new shared strategy for the period 2015-2020.

The Forum

The Forum was attended by the regional Councillor for Production Activities, Palma Costi, the deputy Secretary of the Government of Guangdong, Li Yiwei, the President of the Italy-China Foundation, Cesare Romiti, the President of the Internationalization Commission of Emilia-Romagna Confindustria, Gino Cocchi, and the President of CCPIT Guangdong, Chen Yanqiu. In Emilia-Romagna, between Bologna and Modena, there is the largest Chinese delegation ever to have arrived in Emilia-Romagna, with over 70 businessmen, 20 institutional representatives and 50 artists. The Bologna event is part of the Week of Guangdong as Protagonists at the China Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015. The proceedings were also attended by the Consul General of the Republic of China ,Wang Dong.

Strengthening relations

"With this event, in continuity with Expo - said Councillor Costi - relations between companies and institutions on the various strategic issues have been even further strengthened. This allows us to start a new period of economic and trade relations, for Italian companies in China, especially in the agrifood and manufacturing field, but also with regard to the promotion of our region in China as regards the tourism sector".
